The Best Show on TV……in 1998

Sports Night

Sports Night

The Year was 1998.  I was 16.  Bill Clinton was just starting to get into trouble for starting to get into Monica Lewinski, and Aaron Sorkin introduced us to his first show “Sports Night”.  Sports Night Was a fast passed show that kept you laughing and thinking about life and love, all through the eyes of a Sports Show.  Truly a great show.

I’m not saying that there are not good shows on TV now,  or that there we no good TV shows on TV in 1998.  I am really bothered when Networks have great shows and still manage to not keep them on the air for more than one to two seasons.  Remember Firefly (Fox).  Much like Firefly, Sports Night developed a strong fan base when it was originally on TV.  But, do to the success of Who wants to be a millionaire, ABC canceled the show so they could put it Millionaire on 5 nights a week.  But since it was cancelled Sports Night has been a very popular DVD collection to own.

I’m not the one to do a serious blog but I really don’t feel like making jokes right now do to some unfortunate events in my life.  But I have found myself, during this downtime, getting a lot of laughter out of watching my DVD’s of Sports Night.  I felt, because I have this blog, that I should share parts of my life with all of you.  all 3 of you.

Sports Night is what I would call a show within a show.  The TV show follows the life of the hosts and producers of a Sports show (“Sports Night”).  It is filed with wit, humor, and serious conversations about life.  It is some what fast passed and is not written to the average “target market” of most shows.  It is directed to a smarter class of people.  Not your rank and file idiots that watch reality TV and really enjoy it,  like a fat girl enjoys her rocky road.  Just watch these clips below.  It is one of the episodes in the first season.  This is definitely a show you need to own.

  1. Sports Night was a great show! The greatest show that so few watched. Its demise says so much about the tv audience. Great writing & great actors. Best thing on non-pay tv in my life time.
