I’m kind of a busy guy,  between working, playing in a band, and writing for you fine people, I don’t get a lot of time watch T.V.  Thank god for Tivo.  Not only will it save your life (watch Tropical Thunder), but it will also allow you to watch TV shows no matter what time your are home.  Right now your thinking “I know that Dr. Awesome”.  So on to my real point. 

I know Macgyver was making sweet, sweet love to Awesome in the 80’s, but did that love produce and Macgyver/Awesome offspring?

Burn Notice.  That’s Right Burn Notice.  It’s the best show on TV.  Here is the rundown.  Michael Westen (good name….I know right) Was a spy.  He got Burned (Fired) and now lives in Miami, Fl.  not Miami, AZ for those of you wondering.  Westen (that’s what I call him) isn’t saving a town with the population of 1,841 (according to wikipedia and the 2006 census).  So he runs around Miami with his crew (That’s what I call them) Fiona (Westen’s ex) and Sam (ex Navy SEAL). 

As the people who burned Westen (we don’t know who they really are) make him do crazy jobs for them, he also helps out regular joes in Miami.  He often does Jobs for free because he has a very strong sense of right and wrong.  Just like his father Macgyver… OK. OK. Macgyver is not Westens dad, But wouldn’t that be a awesome plot twist…  I think Richard Dean Anderson (R.D.A. to friends like me) is free.  Isn’t he does with Stargate? 

I know what you are thinking, “How is a show about a fired spy, and a show about a Canadian super hero alike”?  well I will tell you.  Just like in Macgyver Westen helps out those less fortunate than himself.  Often helping out his family and friends of his family.  He also makes crazy things (i.e. Bugs and X ray machines) out of things like cell phones, old TV’s, and PVC pipe.  Now try to tell me that is not Macgyver-like. 

So Check out Burn Notice.  It’s on the U.S.A. Network.  You’ll be glad you did.

Ok, here is the deal.  It has come to my attention that there is not a fine line between gay and straight.  It’s more of a gray area.  I found myself in that gray area last night……  Please let me explain.

So I’m at home right.  Sitting on my couch, drinking my drink of choice, the only one with a P.H.D, and I’m watching some women’s Olympic swimming finals.  That’s straight right?  A bunch of women swimming.  That can be hot, and it’s live TV so anything can happen.  And, like normal, I found myself hoping that the “gifted” swimmer from Australia would have a Janet Jackson moment as she is jumping into the water.  But god must be deaf because her swimsuit stayed firmly, and unfortunately, in place.  As the clock neared midnight Bob Costas changed the coverage from women’s swimming over to men’s gymnastics finals, and before I knew it I was watching men jump around on the floor with pointed toes. 

I wish I could say at that point I changed the channel to watch something exploding or Chuck Norris kicking someones ass, but no.  Instead I was trying to talk as if I knew something about Pommel Horse.  “Look at the athleticism there”,  “Man, it is so hard to hold that position”… I wish I could say I didn’t say any of those things… I wish I could say that. 

Because of these types of experiences, and that one other one in college, I have come to an obvious conclusion.  Straight people can do gay things.  I’m sure that some gay people watch Lumber Jack sports (insert gay joke here) on the Outdoor Network, and I’ve been know to enjoy a episode or two of So You Think You Can Dance… and berfore you laugh at me, those chicks are hot.  Enough said.

Na-Nu Na-Nu. I have brought you all here to talk about the current state of TV. I’m worried. I don’t understand how people can watch shows like The Apprentice, The View, or any other “reality” program. I know what you are thinking… The View isn’t a reality TV show…. it’s an interview program. Listen up middle-aged-woman- too-depressed-with-her-life-to-realize -that-sitting-on-the-couch-not- helping-around-the-house- does-not-justify-not-having-a-job any show with 4 or 5 women in the middle of the day, without a kitchen, is a reality TV show. You’re just too full off M&M’s, and tears, to know any better.

Shows like the before mentioned Apprentice really piss me off. The fact that we live in a world where someone like Omarosa can make more money then a common street beggar makes me want to bitch slap the pope (I would like to do that anyway… but that’s a blog for a different day). We have become a nation that loves to watch the least common denominator on TV. No I’m not against all Reality TV shows. Just the ones that are on when I’m alive. Shows like Kid Nation and Flavor of love 2 (WTF….. how many times can that Chronos worshiping midget fall in love?) showcase how retarded we have become. People from other countries that watch those shows must think all Americans are all fat retarded sloths that can’t decide if we should make a sex tape with Kim Kardashian or Britney Spears.

Not all TV is bad. There are a lot of good TV shows out there. Shows like Burn notice or even Extreme home make over. Yes, I realize that Extreme home makeover is a reality TV show, but I don’t look at it that way. It is more of a charity program… it does a lot of good for people that really need it. I dare you not to cry when the cop who was paralyzed while taking a bullet for a 6 year old girl who was at the wrong place at the wrong time gets a house that will allow her to move around freely and play with her little daughter.

All I am saying is wake up America. Because we live in a “free” market Economy I can’t just call up these TV stations and say “Hey, you, idiot with the great job and Beautiful car and hot wife that will let you do things to her that should be illegal, stop playing Shit on TV.” Because when I did that last Thursday I was told that those are some of the highest rated shows on TV and make the most money….. but if no one watched them TV stations would be forced to put money into good shows like Life.
